Manan Trivedi (born May 22, 1974) is a physician, Iraq War veteran. He was the Democratic nominee for Pennsylvania's 6th congressional district in the 2010 congressional election.[1] He is seeking the Democratic nomination for the Sixth District again in 2012.[2]

Background

Early life and education

Trivedi was born and raised in Fleetwood, Pennsylvania.[3] He is currently employed as a board-certified doctor of internal medicine at The Reading Hospital and Medical Center in West Reading, Pennsylvania.[3]

Before running for Congress, Trivedi served as a Health Care Advisor to the Obama for America campaign.

Military service

During the Iraq War, Trivedi served as a battalion surgeon with the United States Marine Corps.[4] He earned the Combat Action Ribbon, the Navy Commendation Medal, and his unit was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation.[5]

2010 campaign

Democratic primary

In the May 18, 2010 primary election, Trivedi defeated journalist Doug Pike and Lower Merion Commissioner Brian Gordon by 672 votes.[3][6]

General election

Trivedi lost to his opponent Republican Congressman Jim Gerlach.[1] in the midterm election for House on November 2, 2010.

2012 campaign

Trivedi is seeking the Democratic nomination for Pennsylvania's 6th congressional district again in 2012.[2]

Personal life

Trivedi and his wife, Surekha, reside in Birdsboro, Pennsylvania.[3]
