-
Making Waves Canada is an umbrella organization, overseeing groups across Canada providing private, low-cost and adapted swimming/water-safety instruction to children with varying disabilities. The organization's mandate is to provide services to children left behind by typical swimming lesson organizations. The management of each Making Waves chapter is undertaken by independent University student groups, each operating at arm's length with Making Waves Canada.[1]History
In 2009, Making Waves Canada was created to promote the growth of sustainable chapters in cities across Canada. Since then, the organization has established itself in cities across the country and now offers over 5000 lessons per year.[2][3]
Development Work
Making Waves Canada partners with NGOs around the world, sending trained instructors to develop swimming curricula and to increase awareness of -and outreach towards- persons with disabilities.[4]
