Maikhanella is a genus of small shelly fossil; it is a 'scaly' shell whose scales are equivalent to sclerites of the genus Siphogonuchites. Not just an agglutination of sclerites, the shells have a calcified matrix. Juvenile shells appear not to incorporate sclerites.[1]
