Mahroof Hussain is a British Labour Party politician, who is a Councillor for the Labour Party on Metropolitan Borough of Rotherham. He was first elected in 2002 for Boston Ward. He was subsequently re-elected to the newly formed Boston Castle ward in 2004 and 2008.

Mahroof was awarded a Member of British Empire (MBE) for service to Local Government in 2008 New Years Honours and Councillor of the Year 2008/2009 by Local Government Yorkshire and Humber.

Parliamentary

As a graduate of the first Operation Black Vote.scheme run by Simon Woolley, mahroof worked for a Yorkshire Member of Parliament in 2001 as a parliamentary researcher.

He went on to stand as a parliamentary candidate in the 2005 General Election in the Constituency of Sheffield Hallam against Nick Clegg MP, who was standing in his first parliamentary election.

Mahroof was a candidate in the 2009 European Parliamentary election for Yorkshire and the Humber region.

Mahroof was a member of the Dept for Work and Pensions Ethnic Minority Employment Task Force from 2006-2008. The Task Force was formed in response to the recommendations of the Prime Minister’s Strategy Unit’s report on ethnic minorities in the Labour market.

Tackling Extremism

Following the 2005 terrorist bombings in London, Mahroof was appointed by the Home Office to be a member of the Tackling Extremism Task Force[1] which made some wide ranging recommendations to the government.

He subsequently worked with Department of Communities and Local Government by serving on the Local Delivery Advisory Group which was jointly chaired by the Home Secretary and Communities Secretary until the new coalition Government was elected in May 2010. This group was made of key partners from the across the country to see how we can involve local people and implement local initiatives around the PREVENT agenda. .

Labour Party

Mahroof was also elected by Yorkshire & Humber constituency Labour parties onto the National Policy Forum (NPF) in 2007-2010. He has given interviews to regional and national newspapers.[2][3][4][5][6] He has given Radio interviews [7][8] and TV appearances on Look North[9] and Calendar on political issues and most notably BBC Politics Show.[10] He has regularly given national speeches on various topics on tackling Extremism, Equalities[11] in the public sector and at the Police Superintendents Association Annual Conference on Community Leadership.
