Alor Star, KedahPolitical party UMNO Occupation Politician Religion Islam Dato' Mahdzir bin Khalid (born 15 December 1960) served as the ninth Menteri Besar (Chief Minister) of the Malaysian state of Kedah, from 28 December 2004 until 8 March 2008. He is currently the Chairman of UMNO in Kedah and the Opposition Leader in the state Assembly, representing Pedu.
Mahdzir was sworn in as Menteri Besar after his predecessor, Datuk Seri Syed Razak bin Syed Zain Barakhbah, resigned because of ill health in December 2005. Mahdzir had been acting in the position since July 17 that year.[1]
Mahdzir's tenure as Menteri Besar came to an end after his Barisan Nasional government was defeated in the 2008 Malaysian elections by an opposition coalition led by PAS.[2]
