Mahawar (Hindi or Rajasthani: महावर ) is a name used in the Indian subcontinent mostly in Northern India as a surname or given name. As a noun in Sanskrit, Mahawar has various positive connotations, such as "Great", "Unique", "Important", "Great Man" and "One Who is Superior among all". Its meaning Can be Traced via Sandhi Vi-Chhed as Maha + War Where Maha means "Great or Superior" and War means "Man" in Sanskrit and Hindi , Resulting its meaning "One Who is Great among all" . [1]

Mahawar is a surname of Koli Hindu caste. In much of North India (including Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh), it is regarded as a family name. However, the name does not necessarily denote a unique paternal lineage.

The name Mahawar is written as महावर in Hindi. An alternative version of the name used in the city of Ajmer and the Indian states of Madhya Pradesh and Chattisgarh is Mahour. Some Of them also use Mahawer and Mahaver .
