Magnum Semiconductor is a spinout of the Cirrus Logic Video Division which pioneered MPEG video recording and enabled high volume, affordable DVD Recorders in 2003. Magnum also acquired the consumer products division of LSI Corporation in 2007, adding the industry leading Domino video compression technology to its portfolio. (The division had started with the acquisition of C-Cube Microsystems, the first company to offer real time MPEG1 and MPEG2 compression). The company's products therefore now target both professional and consumer markets.
Magnum offers a complete set of chips, software, reference platforms, and engineering support for digital video recording, playback and management of audio/video content. The Magnum platforms also enable sharing entertainment via optical disc, flash disk and networking inside the home.
Magnum's consumer products are currently found in video recorder products of CE leading manufacturers at a wide range of retail chains including BestBuy, Circuit City, Target, Carrefour, Dixons, Aldi, and many other retailers of consumer electronics.
As of 2008, company's CEO is Gopal Solanki, the former VP of nVidia.
