The area was traditionally part of Lower Carniola. It is now included in the Jugovzhodna Slovenija statistical region.[2]
The local church, built inside a walled enclosure in the western part of the settlement, is dedicated to Saint Vitus (Slovene: Sveti Vid) and belongs to the Šentjernej parish. It is mentioned in written documents dating to 1436, but owes its current Baroque style to a major rebuilding in the 18th century.[3]
