Occasional Segments & Bits

  • Fan Letters — Listeners are given the opportunity to send in stories on various themes throughout the year. The debut series was from a discussion on Boat Launch Disasters. Every letter that is read on the show receives a small prize and gets put into a hopper. At the end of the reading session (which usually lasts one to two weeks with two sets of stories over the course of the show), one letter is selected at random to receive a grand prize that usually has something to do with the theme of the stories sent in. For example, when Camping Stories were read in June 2006, the grand prize winner received a GPS navigation unit and Binoculars.[4]

A compiled list of themes is below:

  • Bad Breakups
  • Bad Camping
  • Bad Roommates
  • Boat Launch Stories
  • Bureaucracy
  • Father Knows Least
  • First Car
  • Football Tales
  • Great Outdoors
  • Gym Class Stories
  • Holiday Horror Stories
  • Home Destruction
  • Hunting
  • Lawn Care Disasters
  • Shortest Job
  • Smashed In The Face
  • Tee’d Off Golfing
  • Vacation Disasters
  • Wedding Disasters
  • Worst Jobs
  • Wreck The Halls
  • Where you goin', What you takin' — B&B along with Carrie take calls from listeners (usually around major holidays) and simply ask "Where you goin', what you takin'". Callers reply with where they are traveling to and what they are bringing along.[3]

Defunct

  • "You (Still) Can't Win" (9:45) — Played daily, defunct as of November 2011.

An intense (but potentially lucrative) gameshow pitting a phone-in contestant against five randomly drawn questions that Brian selects from a pool of twenty-six. Contestants must correctly answer the five contest questions in the order asked to win. If any question is answered incorrectly, the game play will be over and no prizes will be awarded. This method will continue for each game play until a contestant successfully answers the five contest questions in the order asked. That round will then be over and a new round with a new set of twenty-six official questions and answers will begin the next weekday the game is played. Callers may participate only once per 7 days.[5][6]

Charity & Contributions

B&B event logos
  • 28 Hour Radiothon — During the second week in April, B&B host the 28 hour Radiothon for the MACC Fund (Midwest Athletes Against Childhood Cancer). The Radiothon includes guest interviews from around the sports and entertainment industry. Donated items ranging from local business establishment products to items collected throughout the year from the many concerts and events 102.9 THE HOG sponsors. Proceeds from the Radiothon go to the MACC Fund.[7]
  • Gutter Bowl — On the last Friday of February, Bob and Brian host a bowling tournament to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Wisconsin. During the event, various items are given out and contests are held. In previous years, the event has been sponsored by and features Steve Czaban.[3]
  • HOG For Hunger — November around Thanksgiving, the Bob & Brian crew, along with the other rock jocks at the station, have a 3-day remote broadcast where they seek food donations for the Hunger Task Force of Milwaukee. Weather permitting, they are always at a drop off location, and encourage listeners to stop by during the show and donate. Other ways to contribute include dropping off items at a local sponsor or being a patron of various businesses that donate a percentage of the sales.[8]
  • OPEN Golf Outing — Wisconsin’s largest charity golf tournament, held annually in August. Money is raised by purchasing golfing spots either in the morning or afternoon round. A special auction is held to determine who Bob, Brian, and Steve golf with; the highest bidders for both rounds being rewarded with a spot. Between rounds around noon, Czaban shows a custom made video presentation, and performs a special stunt. In 2009, it was successfully catching a golf ball with a baseball glove from 200 feet away. According to Bob and Brian, it proves former program director John Duncan wrong when he said that the Golf Outing wouldn’t work because their listeners don’t golf.[3]
  • Plane Pull — Hosted every October, the Midwest Airlines sponsored, and B&B presented event features 30 teams of 12 attempting to pull a Midwest Airlines aircraft 15 feet across a tarmac in less than 10 seconds. Teams compete for the top prize of complimentary roundtrip travel to any Midwest Airlines destination compliments of the airline. The second place team receives day packs from The North Face. Money raised goes to the Midwest Athletes Against Childhood Cancer (MACC) Fund.[9][10]

Compilation albums

Bob and Brian annually release albums containing highlights of the broadcasting year. Albums are available through radio promotions, local vendors, and online. The cover artwork is illustrated by local Milwaukeean Matt Zumbo. Proceeds from the album sales go to the Hunger Task Force of Milwaukee and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Wisconsin.[11]
