Drew G. Montalvo

Drew G. Montalvo, also known as DJ Drew G, is “one of the most sought-after talents on the dance music scene”, according to Edge Magazine.[1] Featured on Sirius XM and PerezHilton.com, Drew G’s work is no stranger to the Billboard Club Chart. Notably, Drew G. was chosen from a long list of DJ's to spin at a 2009 Presidential Inaugural Ball for President Barack Obama. With his remix partner Brian Cua, Drew G. has worked on official remixes for pop music icons like Lady Gaga, Britney Spears, Whitney Houston, Pink, Mary J. Blige, Chaka Khan, Deborah Cox, David Archuleta and Ashanti. In 2009, Drew worked on the 6th studio album of Grammy-Award winning pop singer Mýa. Drew is also credited with creating the theme song for the popular iPhone social application; Grindr.

Born Drew Gilbert Montalvo in New York City in 1983, Drew felt a connection to music from a young age. His father once tried his hand at DJ-ing and his mother frequented legendary nightclubs Studio 54 and Paradise Garage.[2] During his adolescence, Drew G. learned to play guitar and performed with various death metal bands. By the age of 18, Drew had already released five albums and produced several others for local bands. Drew currently plays 10 musical instruments.

By 2000, Drew was drawn to the New York City house music scene. Inspired by the DJ masters he experienced, he began to mix his own tracks featuring house music and his own guitar work. Drew's first New York City gig was Friday Nights at Stonewall, where he spun a combo of Disco, Hip-Hop and Rock music. He became the resident DJ at Gypsy Tea After-Hours on Saturday nights, where he perfected his skills and became equally comfortable spinning peak hour high energy/circuit music and deep dark hard tribal sounds. Drew was offered an internship at influential DJ Peter Rauhofer's imprint, Star 69, and within months, became the retail marketing rep for the label.[3]

Drew was mentored by the legendary DJ Shep Pettibone and went on to become the youngest DJ to play the famed Black Party (three times) and Roxy.[4]

Drew has accepted residencies everywhere from posh nightlife venues such as New York’s G and HK Lounge, DC’s Cobalt nightclub and Los Angeles’ MJ and Mikey’s nightclub to testosterone-filled dive bars like GYM Sportsbar and The Eagle. Drew G. has played major party events on Fire Island, Carnival in Puerta Vallarta, Mexico and at the 2010 Gay and Lesbian Ski Week in Colorado.[5][6][7]
