Dressel is a surname that derives from a few different sources. It is a local surname, that comes the region of Dreshcer in the region of Thuringia. In the Holy Roman Empire hereditary surnames from localities was rather popular. Dressel was also an occupational surname based on the German word "drescher," which is a thresher of grain.^[1]
