It lies on the left bank of the river Krka to the east of Bela Cerkev The area is part of the historical region of Lower Carniola. The municipality is now included in the Southeast Slovenia statistical region.[2]
The local church is dedicated to Saint Helena and belongs to the Bela Cerkev parish. It is first mentioned in written documents dating to 1531. It was restyled in the Baroque in the 18th century.[3]
