Tahir Kamran, (Urdu: تاھر کامران ), is a notable Pakistani historian, reviewer, and former head of the department of history at the Government College University in Lahore, Pakistan. He is currently holding the Iqbal Chair at the University of Cambridge. He has authored four books and has written about 350 articles specifically on the history of the Punjab, sectarianism, democracy, and governance.
Dr. Kamran was one of the few people who supported Jaswant Singh's book Jinnah, saying: "Jinnah was also an Indian leader who played his role in freedom of Hindustan. So his role should be highlighted as Jaswant Singh has done in his book. According to Jaswant Singh, Jinnah was not wholly responsible for the partition.
He has been influential in the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan and implemented methods to improve educational standards in Pakistan.
Dr. Kamran has been a visiting fellow at Southampton University, the SOAS and at the University of Cambridge.
