- Dr. Fortenberry's research on teens and infectious disease
-
Dr. Fortenberry is professor of Pediatrics at Indiana University and has guided an infectious disease research program focused on adolescents over fifteen years of age. His research covers the contextual and interpersonal factors associated with adolescent sexual activity and how interpersonal relationship factors are important predictors of sexual and contraceptive behaviors. He and his team have provided a detailed assessment of the personal and interpersonal risk and related factors associated with teens and young adults. In particular his research has led to some important discoveries, e.g. how adolescent women and variables of health-protective as well as health-harming behaviors were important to chlamydia reinfection. Fortenberry's research has been very helpful in identifying many factors regarding behaviors and the effect on infectious disease.[citation needed] Fortenberry has served as a research mentor to 14 adolescent medicine fellows and is well respected for his work at Indiana University.[citation needed]
