Introduction & Early life

Dr. Ahmed Shawky El Fangary is an Egyptian Medical Doctor and a Notable Islamic Writer. He has published over 30 books in the Arabic language related to Islam and Islamic cultural issues, including: "Islam and the Arts", "Israel as I knew it", and "Misinterpretations that belate Muslims".

He was born in 1925, Graduated from Faculty of Medicine in Cairo University, Egypt. He later traveled to the United States and specialized in Health Sciences at Atlanta University, then worked for the UN as a Consultant for Preventative Medicine].

Imprisonment in Egypt & Israel

In 1948 while he was a student at Cairo University - during the reign of King Farouk, he was accused of opposing the Monarchy and was imprisoned for 3 years in El-Hikestep Prison. He was then transferred to El-Tor Prison to serve another year before he was released.

He later worked as a Medical Doctor in Gaza as part of a UN convoy, where he was captured by Israel, imprisoned and tortured in 1956.

Body of Knowledge

Dr. El Fangary lived and travelled all over the Islamic world, from Pakistan in the east to Morocco in the west, as well as several Western countries such as the United States and Canada.

He has studied the Quran, Islamic Shari'a law and Islamic Interpretation for over 30 years, and written extensively on the topics. He has also studied Muslim social and cultural issues, and the reasons for their decline.
