Early life and schooling
Taylor was born in Alden, New York, a small town outside of Buffalo, New York.
She began performing professionally at a very young age. One of her earliest performances in which she was featured was with The Spirit of Youth, an international singing and dancing tour group.[1]
After graduating from Alden High School, Doreen attended the Hartt School of Music in Hartford, CT, where she received vocal training and graduated with honors and a Bachelor's Degree in Vocal Performance.
Continuing to pursue the art of music, Doreen worked on and received her Master's Degree in Opera Performance from Temple University in Philadelphia, PA, becoming a Master of Music.
Broadway, Opera
In addition to numerous leading operatic roles in many opera companies throughout the United States, Taylor has had lead roles in two Broadway national tour groups. A few of her musical theater company credits throughout the United States include "Christine" in The Phantom of the Opera, "Mother" in Ragtime, "Magnolia" in Show Boat, and "Laurie" in Oklahoma!.
Albums
In 2006, Taylor released Unbreakable, an original album featuring the title track. The tracks are a mix of techno/dance and modern, upbeat love songs and has had airplay on numerous radio stations.
In 2008, Taylor followed Unbreakable up with Taylor Made Hits, a compendium of 19 songs that she covered and performed live in her signature one-woman show, including "My Funny Valentine" and "She Works Hard for the Money."
One-Woman Show
In early 2008, Taylor developed a one-woman stage act and performed it along the Eastern seaboard, including several key cities in New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland, Virginia et al.
During the non-stop action, Taylor provides flawless, powerhouse vocals, intense dancing and energy and will mix in trivia, prize giveaways and some occasional comedy ("Nothing so raunchy you can't bring your mother to see it," she says), and in between live sets she will spin some hot mixes to keep things energetic.[2]
The one-woman act was signed to perform Friday and Saturday nights for ten weeks at the Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City, NJ from July 3 to September 5, 2009 where she received glowing reviews and gained national recognition.
“Doreen Taylor is a supreme talent with sexy elegance,” wrote Atlantic City's "Out on the Town" music reporter Krista Doran, in reviewing the show. [3]
Other Accomplishments
Taylor is a former beauty queen title holder and has performed the National Anthem for the Philadelphia Phantoms of the American Hockey League, the NHL's New York Islanders and Boston Bruins and the Buffalo Bisons, a minor league baseball team. [4] After much anticipation, Doreen released her latest masterpiece, "Coming Home" in March 2010. It was a groundbreaking new venture where Doreen modeled for the 32 page collection of recreations of famous pin-up girls of the 1940's, emulating such classics like Betty Grable, Lana Turner, Veronica Lake, Eva Gardner and Marilyn Monroe. Along with the book, Doreen recorded 19 of the most well-known songs from the WWII era to accompany the book. Included songs are such greats like "I'll Be Seeing You" and "I Got Rhythm". Doreen teemed up with the highly respected, Special Operations Warrior Foundation, a top-rated nonprofit that supports more than 60,000 Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps special operations personnel and their families. 20% of the proceeds will be donated to the charity from the sale of the book and CD.[5] Columnist, Kris Midgett of Strum Magazine described the new book and CD as "sensual and elegant" [6]
