The Peasant Wedding, a 1567 or 1568 painting by Pieter Bruegel the Elder, with two men playing pijpzaks
Doedelzak or pijpzak is the generic term for the bagpipes in the Netherlands.
The specific term also refers to a type of two-droned Flemish bagpipe, as portrayed in the artwork of Pieter Bruegel the Elder. The two drone pipes, which have single reeds and are typically a fifth apart, are in the same stock and face directly up or slightly forward. The chanter has a double reed.
Details
The doedelzak is very similar in design to the cornemuse du centre of Central France.
