Dmitry Smolsky

Dmitry Smolsky or Dmitry Smolski (born 25 July 1937) is a Belarusian composer. He was born in Minsk, Belarus, and began his study of music at the Moscow Conservatory. He continued his studies at the Belarusian State Conservatory, graduating in 1960. After completing his education, he took a position teaching at the Belarusian Conservatory where he taught notable students including Halina Harelava. His music has been performed internationally.[1][2] Dmitry Smolsky is the father of Victor Smolski, guitarist of the German heavy metal band Rage.

Works

Smolsky has composed two concertos for piano and orchestra and six symphonies. Selected works include:

  • Belarus (symphonic poem)
  • Dulcimer concerto
  • Patriotic Etude (ballet)
  • Concerto for violin and orchestra
  • My Homeland (Oratorio)
  • Belorussisian Pictures (ballet)
  • Grey Legend (opera) «Седая легенда»
  • Overture for orchestra[3]

His music has been recorded and released on CD, including:
