The Distinguished Serive in Guarding the State Border was a USSR military medal, created on July 13, 1950. It was awarded to all border troops, servicemen and civilians for outstanding military deeds related to state frontier security. A gold medal was awarded, on the same basis, exclusively to border troops. It ranks highest among the awards for public service.

An estimated 67,000 medals were awarded.
