Background
Damerla grew up in India where she went to school and earned a designation as a chartered accountant. After emigrating to Canada she earned her MBA from the Rotman School of Business, University of Toronto. She worked in corporate banking at the Royal Bank of Canada and the Bank of Nova Scotia. She began her career as a social and political commentator for OMNI TV, covering local issues in Mississauga. Before her election she was Senior Policy Advisor to Ontario's Minister of Economic Development and Trade.[2]
Politics
In 2011 she was the Liberal candidate in the riding of Mississauga East-Cooksville. She beat her nearest rival, Progressive Conservative Zoran Churchin by 4,161 votes.
