Black Rose Books
Black Rose Books was created in 1970 as a book publishing project: publishing the best in alternative ideas in the humanities and social sciences. The company is known for its titles in politics, communications, cultural studies, history, philosophy, sociology and environmental and urban issues.
The company counts among its number several well-known authors, including Murray Bookchin, Noam Chomsky and George Woodcock.
The name Black Rose Books was originally proposed by Murray Bookchin. According to legend, during the peasant uprisings in the Middle Ages those who found freedom would also find the black rose in nature. Since, the black rose has been adopted as a symbol of anarchism and in keeping with this, Black Rose Books also publishes a large and excellent list of titles devoted to Anarchist studies.
