History
Different Worlds was launched in 1979 by Greg Stafford to promote the role-playing games from his own editing house, Chaosium. At that time Chaosium was primarily a board games publisher, but was also publishing, since 1978, its own role-playing game, RuneQuest, destined to be played in Glorantha, Stafford's fantasy world. Different Worlds was the promoting equivalent magazine of TSR's Dragon, in edition since 1976. Chaosium had previously launched a specialized magazine called Wyrm's Footnotes, which ran for fourteen issues from 1976 to 1995. Initially, Wyrm's Footnotes was conceived for White Bear and Red Moon, first Chaosium's game and main line product, but for its 11th issue, in 1981, it had become the official RuneQuest magazine.[1]
Edition
Forty-seven bimonthly issues were published. Chaosium, from 1979 to 1985, published the thirty-eight first ones and Sleuth Publications, from 1985 to 1987, the nine last ones. In spite of being an old Chaosium's and Stafford's collaborator, Tadashi Ehara was the editor of the magazine during the periods concerned by both publishing houses.[2]
