- Dickerson 41
-
The Dickerson 41 Ketch was the masterpiece of the Dickerson Boat Yard located in Trappe, Maryland on the Eastern Shore. The yard built many boats over the years, the '41' rules over all of them. They were built in the late 1970s and soon after one, Southern Cross, managed a circumnavigation. Years later, a second, Beau Soleil, spent 8 years circumnavigating via Panama and the Red Sea while homeschooling their son.
Southern Cross was the "Plug" from which subsequent Dickerson 41's were made from, and was first launched in Spring of 1974. That same fall she commenced her circumnavigation with Neville & Louise Lewis and their 10 year old son Christopher. They sailed via the Panama Canal, Tahiti, Fiji, New Zealand, Salomon Islands, New Guinea, Darwin, Bali, South Africa, Caribbean and Home. Christopher was boat schooled via the Calvert School.
