The Dhusar Bhargava, are a Hindu Brahmin caste found in North India. They are also known as simply Bhargava.[2]
The Bhargava trace their descent from Bhrigu Rishi, and others in his lineage, such as Chyavana and Parushrama. According to their origin myths, they are were worshipers of fires, and manufacturers of chariots. Their homeland was the Dhosi hills in Haryana. When the Bhargavas lost a battle with the Mughals, they dispersed into the urban areas of neighbouring Uttar Pradesh. They speak both Hindi and the Khari boli. The Bhargava are strictly endogamous, and practice clan exogamy. Their main clans are the Kashyap, Badalash, Kuchalas, Gaglash, Golash, Vidash, Gaurish, Kasiv, and Vatsya.
The Bhargavas are mainly a community that is involved in trade, and have also played an important role in the commerce of many North Indian towns and cities such as Allahabad. They have a well established caste association, the Bhargava Sabha which acts a community welfare association.[3]
