In the ranks of the three German schools in Egypt the DSB Alexandria enjoys the high esteem in the Egyptian society, and also in Germany. This excellent reputation is based on an over 120-year tradition. According to statute began the Congregation of Borromäerinnen, "without considering race, class and religion must be distinguished" (§ 139 of the religious association) of the social ill's youth, especially the girls to help.

The 'German School in Alexandria Borromäerinnen' is a German-Egyptian Encounter School by the Federal Office of Administration in Cologne staffed and financially supported. It all began 1882 when Pater Ladislaus Schneider 'a priest' wanted a school for German and Austrian children in Alexandria, so sisters of the Borromäerinnen order came to Alexandria in 1883 and the first school was about an appartement with 30 kids.

A year later a rich man named Wilhem Pelizäus came to the aid of the sisters and rented a building in area which was called then 'Turinischen Gärten'.

The German school of Borromäerinnen in Alexandria was founded in 1884 and was initially an education for German and Austrian, whose father in the construction of the port in Alexandria were employed. With the enlargement of the spectrum of students was in 1894 a curriculum in accordance with the model of a higher school daughters introduced.

After the expulsion of the German sisters in the First World War they returned in 1922 in Alexandria to work again. Already in 1911, was a commercial class where the students learned accounts, shorthand and typewriting, and deepened their skills in foreign languages to a secure life.
In 1924, the first German secular, appointed by the Foreign Office undertook their service as teachers at the school. Continuously, the number of German teachers in parallel with the ever growing number of pupils increased.

In 1946 after World War II, Arabic became an official language taught at school. It was only logical that in the commercial category, typewriting, accounting, economics and correspondence to be taught in the language of the country.
In 1956, the first test for ripeness at the Middle school. In 1967 students presented for the first time the Egyptian Thanawaya Amma examination (Abitur Egyptian).

Since 1980, the German School in Alexandria Borromäerinnen is an approved German International School, leading to a recognized auditing German (German secondary school).
In 1993, the German Abitur (Reifeprüfung) examination was introduced to replace the Egyptian Thanawaya Amma , to open a wider study opportunities in Egypt and also in Germany. Almost at the same time, there was a change in the trade classes.Adjusted to an in Rhineland-Palatinate existing school the former Trade Department was also imported from Germany, the term "Higher Berufsfachschule Economics (HBW). The students are in specialized classes, such as by the business subjects, economics, accounting, computing, typing German and Arabic, Arabic economics, translation (from German into English and from German into Arabic and vice versa), etc. specific to the situation of professional preparation. The DSB Alexandria presents itself as a general education school with a classic, the German Abitur and branches with a practice-oriented industry (technical college) dual training scale. Upon completion of the 8th Class visited about half of the year the FOS-branch, the other branch of the German Abitur. The students of Classes 10 and 11 participate in the Egyptian Thanaweya testing in the Arabic subjects, but outside the school (an important prerequisite for admission to study at an Egyptian University). After passing the German certificate and some selected tests from the Egyptian thenaweya, graduates are eligible for admission in the Egyptian universities according to the German-Egyptian agreement.

The German School offers lessons from the primary school until graduation or baccalaureate professionals for students from Alexandria to. There is a kindergarten and a preschool. Teaching language in most German subjects. Only Arabic, Arab Homeland and Religion is taught in the Arabic language. The students of the German School in Alexandria Borromäerinnen are the new intellectual and technical demands of our modern media and high-technology company by a qualified training has grown. The school is present today in the Old Town of Alexandria and the building is an old one from the 19th Century. A new building is planned on the outskirts. Currently about 800 students attend the German School in Alexandria Borromäerinnen.
