Derbyshki (Russian: Дербышки, Tatar: Дәрвишләр бистәсе, Dәrvişlәr bistәsе) — the urban-type settlement of Kazan.

History

Perhaps that is the name of the locality has received from a man named Dervish. It is known that the name Darwish Ghali II had Astrakhan khan and state leaders of the Kazan Khanate. In the XVI century Near rivers the Kazanka River and the Kinderka River settled village Derbyshkino (Tatar: Дәрвиш авылы, Дәрбишгали, Дербышки). In 1567, there were three peasant households: Derbyshki Small, Derbyshki Large and third — empty. Derbyshki Small Derbyshki located on Archa Darugha (Tatar: Арча даругасы), where the Noksa River empties into the Kazanka River. Derbyshki Large located at rivers were at Kazanka and Kinderka. On the territory of the farm appeared empty the current settlement Derbyshki. In 1650 its population was 41 people. With the advent of the railway station there appear’s the station "Derbyshki". In 1932 it was decided to build a railway car factory, but due to the political situation on February 8, 1940 it was decided to construct the Kazan Optical and Mechanical Plant (KOMZ)[1]. During the Second World War to Derbyshki evacuated residents of besieged Leningrad. Many of them stayed were living at the new location. In Derbyshki located one of the largest research and production associations in Russia in opto-electronic instrument - NPO "State Institute of Applied Optics, founded in 1966 on the basis of branch of the S.I.Vavilov State Optical Institute[2][3].

  • 4 sports facilities, including stadium "Raketa"
  • there’s also the Lake Komsomolskoe, ski jumping hill, and piste are in wood

Famous natives of Derbyshki

  • Vladimir Vladimirovich Korchagin (born 1924) — science-fiction writer, candidate of geological-mineralogical sciences[4]
  • Nikolai Dmitrievich Lipatov (1916—1944) — was posthumously awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union[5]
  • Pavel Aleksandrovich Khalezov (1916—1999) — the head of Kazan Optical and Mechanical Plant (1950—1961, 1963—1969), Hero of Socialist Labour from 1966
