Department of Computer Applications was established in year 2002 at NSHM Knowledge Campus (popularly known as NSHM is a Management college in Durgapur, India. It was established in year 1996). Department of Computer Applications is a Center of Excellence in Teaching Methodologies and Experiential learning.

Contents

The Department

The department carries out academic studies in the area of Software Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Networks and Information Security. The department is also engaged in Software consultancy projects, providing IT consultacy and software solutions to different Government and Non-Government organiztaions. Currently the department does not offer any post graduate course. It has 160 graduate and 180 undergraduate students.

  • Bachelor in Computer Applications (BCA)is a 3 years degree course in computer applications. The degree is awarded by West Bengal University of Technology (WBUT)

Approval and affiliation

The college is affiliated to the West Bengal University of Technology WBUT and approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), Government of India.

The department has Academia-Industry linkages with Oracle, Microsoft, Avaya, Adobe, Autodesk, etc.The college has International Academic tie-up with Sheffield Hallam University, Anglia Ruskin University, University of Teesside, COTHM, Cyprus. IMI Switzerland, The British Council,UKIERI(UK-INDIA Education & Research Initiative),DMS (Department of management Studies – IIT Delhi). The college is a participant in ISRO-Edusat project.

Valued Added Programmes

The department has been authorised to participate with Oracle Corporation's Workforce Development Program (WDP). The program is designed to allow accredited academic institutions to deliver to participants a premium education on cutting-edge Oracle technologies based on Oracle University. The curriculum is designed that leads to Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) and Oracle Certified Associate (OCA) certification.

Training and Placement Cell

The Training and Placement Cell of the department maintains strong relationship with major IT Organizations in the country. This cell lays greater emphasis in industrial and practical training for the UG Students, which is an integral part of the curriculum and in-built into the programs of study. The students are introduced to industrial practices through cutting-edge Technology training sessions. Major training providers are HCL,HP. Major recruiters perticiapting are CMM level 5 organizations like IBM, Wipro Technologies, IBM-Daksh,Accenture, TCS, Wipro-BPO, CTS, Syntel, Tech Mahindra.

The Campus

The campus is spread on 100 acres (0.40 km2) of land, 6,000,000 square feet (560,000 m2) with classrooms, central computing laboratory, library, hostels, canteens, play ground, recreation centers for cultural activities.

The Central Library

The Central Library is located on a 10,000 sq ft (930 m2) area with 22,550 books and 100 + international & national journals.The Digital Library consists of e-journals & e-books for access.

Accommodation

NSHM is open to residential students and day-scholars. Halls of residence for male and female students are located within the Campus.Each hostel has a common room, outdoor and indoor recreation, medicare services, student support services with Transportation facility, 24 × 7 water and power supply, wifi internet facility etc.

Student facilities

There is a calendar of cultural, entertainment and recreational programs and events including sporting activities, and attending specialty lectures and symposia etc.
