History
Founded in 1984 by Russell Del Toro and Roberto Santana, Del Toro & Santana stands out as a specialized litigation law firm in Puerto Rico. A merger in 1988 with the law firm of former Puerto Rico Governor Carlos Romero Barceló, brought about a name change for the firm to Romero Barceló, Del Toro & Santana. In 1992 the firm changed its name back to Del Toro & Santana when former governor Romero Barceló was elected as Resident Commissioner of Puerto Rico in Washington, DC and had to withdraw from the firm due to his return to public service as a member of Congress.
The firm was also involved in several landmark cases including defending one of the owners and several related entities in the Dupont Plaza Hotel arson case (the largest civil litigation case in U.S. history at the time) as well as the infamous "Carpetas" case[2] (the largest mass tort case ever filed in the history of Puerto Rico).
