It impounds the river Lichte and lies between the municipalities Lichte (Geiersthal) and Unterweissbach. That particular Forebay belongs to the Leibis-Lichte Dam (de: Talsperre Leibis-Lichte).
The name, Deesbach Forebay, was derived d from the close proximity to the municipality Deesbach.
