Death in Paradise is a crime drama/comedy joint UK/French television programme filmed in Guadeloupe, the first overseas region of France, starring Ben Miller and Sara Martins.

Synopsis

The plot centres on the character of straight-laced English policeman Richard Poole (Ben Miller), a detective from the London Metropolitan Police. He is sent to the fictional Caribbean island of Saint Marie to solve the case of the death of a fellow British policeman.[2] After solving the death of his predecessor, he ends up becoming the local police force's new detective.

DI Richard Poole is sent to the Caribbean following the death of a fellow British detective in the locked panic room of a resident English aristocrat's house. Poole must try to solve the case. In the face of the problems of sun, sand and lost luggage, the case must be solved whatever it takes.

A sudden turn of events and a similar past case could help solve what really happened. Meanwhile, can Richard persuade the team that the case has nothing to do with voodoo spirits?

When a woman (Miranda Raison)confesses to a murder, it seems like an easy case for DI Poole and the team, but then they realise that there is no body. The team must solve the mystery and see whether the woman is really telling the truth or if secrets lie within. Meanwhile, DI Poole realises that feelings might be starting to cloud his judgement.

Escorting a convicted fraudster on the ferry back to Saint Marie goes disastrously wrong when the man is stabbed to death while handcuffed to DI. Poole much to his embarrasment, the wrath of the commissioner and the amusement of his team and with a myriad of suspects an impossible case to solve despite unwanted help from an amatuer slueth.

When DI Poole is struck down with a mysterious disease, with Camille on holiday in Paris, its down to Dwayne and Fidel to solve the almost impossible murder of a local driver. However can they piece the mystery of his death together? And even though the case is hard enough for them, they get more on their hands in the shape of british cop DS Angela Young, who seems to be even more annoying than DI Poole!

Reception

The first episode was popular with the public, achieving just over 6 million viewers, the critics views and the news on whether a second series will be commissioned is still to come.

DVD Releases

Series 1 of Death in Paradise is due for release on Monday 26 December 2011. It was published on Amazon on the 1 November 2011 for pre-order at a price of £12.99
