"Deadly Slumber" is an episode of the British television detective mystery show Inspector Morse dramatized on ITV. It was first broadcast in 1993.

Set-Up

Matthew Brewster, owner of a private clinic, is found dead in his garage with the car engine running. The pathologist discovers he was murdered.

Investigation

Morse and his Sergeant Lewis question the dead man's wife and son. They uncover that the victim had been threatened by Michael Steppings (Brian Cox), whose daughter was rendered brain dead while undergoing simple surgery at the clinic. Michael Steppings is interrogated for the murder then released when Morse uncovers an alibi for him. Wendy Hazlitt (Penny Downie), a nurse at the clinic, had an affair with Matthew Brewster.

Conclusion

John Brewster, the son of Matthew Brewster, confesses to the murder of his father, but Morse uncovers the truth; Michael Steppings committed the murder, and the son John Brewster killed Michael Steppings.
