De Bakke is an area in the town of Mossel Bay, South Africa, famed for its beautiful views, excellent camping and safe swimming.
The name appears to be of Dutch/Afrikaans origins meaning "the pots" and may refer to the long history of this area being enjoyed as a holiday and picnic destination as far back as the 18th century.
It is also adjacent to the famed landfall of Santos beach where the Portuguese explorer Bartolomeu Dias first came ashore on the southern coast of Africa.
Mossel Bay is the base chosen by the Paraguayan national football contingent for their 2010 FIFA World Cup campaign.[citation needed] 2010 will mark the first time in its history that Soccer World Cup is being held in Africa. South Africa was awarded the rights to host the tournament after defeating Morocco and Egypt in the all-African bidding process.[1][clarification needed]
