He was drafted by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the seventh round of the 2009 NFL Draft. He played college football at Southern Utah. Former Southern Utah University cornerback DeWayne Lewis of Denver, Colo., has been selected to play for the 2011 U.S. Men’s National Team in football in the fourth International Federation of American Football (IFAF) Senior World Championship July 8–16 in Austria. USA Football assembles America’s national teams in the sport for international competition.
Lewis is one of 39 players named to Team USA, led by former Northwest Missouri State University head coach and three-time NCAA Division II national champion Mel Tjeerdsma. Six players will be added to the roster in the coming weeks. U.S. Men’s National Team players must be at least 20 years old.

Early years
DeWayne Lewis attended Thomas Jefferson High School where he led his team to the quarter final stage of the 2001 state playoffs and also the 2002 state semifinals being named Defensive Player of the year. DeWayne Lewis also showcased his talent on the track breaking every Colorado sprint record rewriting the record book in two years. His senior year Lewis was the state champion in 3 events, two years in a roll. ESPN sports analyst Woody Paige conducted several interviews and even wrote statewide articles on Lewis. Lewis was named Athlete of the year, All American, All Colorado, even made the Junior USA National team. Lewis is the Eighth Fastest Athlete in Colorado history.
In College Lewis continued his dominance as a speed demon and Corner Back from 2003-2008. Lewis played college football at the Southern Utah and Michigan State where he played in 32 games making 28 starts and finishing his college career with 199 tackles and six interceptions.DeWayne Lewis is an outstanding CB listed on many world wide draft ranking site as the top 20 best corners available at Southern Utah a transfer from Michigan State where he saw good time on the field. Southern Utah University corner back DeWayne Lewis has been named this week's Great West Football Conference Defensive Player of the Week 3 times for his play in the Thunder birds' game at Montana State Saturday.
Lewis is a 5-foot-11, 191-pound corner back transfer from Michigan State University. Tallied eight tackles against the Thunderbirds' near-upset of No. 13 ranked Montana State. Lewis had five solo stops, two sacks and was in on three tackles-for-loss in the 7-3 setback. He also forced a fumble and broke up a pass on third down late in the game as the Bobcats were trying to run out the clock to force a punt and give the Thunderbirds a chance to come back. Former Southern Utah University cornerback DEWAYNE LEWIS of Denver, Colo., has been selected to play for the 2011 U.S. Men’s National Team in football in the fourth International Federation of American Football (IFAF) Senior World Championship July 8–16 in Austria. USA Football assembles America’s national teams in the sport for international competition.
Lewis is one of 39 players named to Team USA, led by former Northwest Missouri State University head coach and three-time NCAA Division II national champion MEL TJEERDSMA. Six players will be added to the roster in the coming weeks. U.S. Men’s National Team players must be at least 20 years old.
Lewis played two seasons in the NFL after a standout college career at Southern Utah. He was taken in the seventh round by the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2009, playing parts of that season and the next with Jacksonville before signing with the Cincinnati Bengals. A two-year starter at Southern Utah, he posted 51 tackles and one interception his senior season.
The IFAF Senior World Championship is an eight-nation football tournament held every four years since 1999. Games will be played in Graz, Innsbruck and Vienna. The U.S. defeated Japan, 23-20, in double overtime in Tokyo, Japan, to win the 2007 tournament, the first that included Team USA. Prior to the United States’ participation, Japan earned gold medals at the first two IFAF Senior World Championships played in Palermo, Italy (1999), and Frankfurt, Germany (2003).
Fifty-nine (59) countries across five continents possess national football federations dedicated solely to football.
The United States is part of Group A along with Australia, Germany and Mexico. Group B includes Austria, Canada, France and Japan. A round robin schedule in group play determines who will compete for gold and bronze medals.

Jacksonville Jaguars
Lewis was selected by the Jacksonville in the end of the comp seventh round (234th overall) in the 2009 NFL Draft. He was the first ever player to be selected by the Jaguars out of the Southern Utah University. In his rookie season posting four tackles. He made his NFL debut versus the Colts before being released.
Cincinnati Bengals
On May 3, 2010, Lewis was signed to the Cincinnati Bengals. He was the Bengals' Special Team rookie in the 2010 season, and was one of the Bengals upcoming player.
Lewis was injured reserve when he sustained a ankle injury in the beginning of the season 2010.
