Program history
Day Planner was added in 2003 as one of the last programs to be added to The Weather Channel's morning programming block. For all intents and purposes, its format is similar to Your Weather Today, but the primary focus for the show is towards Middle America and the West Coast. While the show originally aired from 9 am - 12 pm ET when it premiered, its schedule has shifted to 11 am - 2 pm ET; this time shifting puts Day Planner into the morning hours for the regions. In the event an ongoing significant weather event occurs (e.g., severe weather outbreak, winter storm, hurricane threatening the United States), Day Planner may be extended by one hour, preempting long-form programming during the 2-3 pm ET timeslot. A major shift in TWC's schedule began on Monday September 27, 2010, with this change Day Planner now airs from 11:00 am – 5:00 pm (11:00 am – 6:00 pm if there's a special coverage, until November 13, 2010, when it was moved to its current 7:00 pm).
