Frank Ashley Day Middle School is a public middle school located in the village of Newtonville in Newton, Massachusetts. Students from Peirce, Cabot, Burr, Franklin and Horace Mann Elementary Schools go to this middle school, and in turn the Day students attend Newton North High School. As with the Charles E. Brown Middle School, F.A. Day was a junior high school prior to fall 1992 when it expanded from housing only the seventh and eighth grades to include the sixth grade.
Mindy Goodman, the former 6th grade French teacher and school Latin teacher, won a national teaching award in 2002 from the American Philological Association.[1] She is also a Justice of the Peace and retired after the 2006 school year.
Actor Matt LeBlanc attended this school.[citation needed]
On April 28, 2007, the 8th Grade Acting Elective brought home a gold medal from the Massachusetts High School Drama Guild Middle School Drama Festival for their production of the one-act play "Tick Talk" by Lindsay Price, as well as three student honors.[citation needed]
On May 9, 2009 the 8th and 7th grade acting electives brought home another gold medal from the Massachusetts High School Drama Guild Middle School Drama Festival for their production of the 30-minute act of "All The Bases" by Alan Haehne.[citation needed]
The Daytime
The monthly newspaper of Day middle school, The Daytime, has won a national competition, the Columbia Scholastic Press Association Gold Crown Newspaper award (middle school division) for ten years in a row, from 2001 - 2010. In 2011 they tied in first with another school.[citation needed]
