David R Cole is a senior lecturer at the University of Technology, Sydney. He works in the fields of literacy and pedagogy. He is well known as a vocal critic of functional and psychological views of education that exclude affective views of literacy or socio-cultural teaching practice[1]
He has published widely in journals such as Educational Philosophy & Theory, English in Australia, Literacy Learning: The Middle Years, Curriculum Perspectives, CTheory and the Review of Education, Pedagogical & Cultural Studies.
His first novel was published in 2007, and called A Mushroom of Glass, published by Sid Harta.[2]
David is currently working on three edited collections of essays:
- Cole, DR & Pullen, DL, Multiliteracies in motion: Current theory and practice, Routledge;
- Pullen, DL & Cole, DR, Multiliteracies and Technology Enhanced Education: Social Practice and the Global Classroom, IGI Global Publications:
- Masny, D & Cole, DR, Multiple Literacies Theory: A Deleuzian Perspective, Sense Publishers.
These books explain how many of D.R.Cole's ideas on current literacy practice may be realised.[3]
