David Geoffrey Penington AC (born 4 February 1930) is an Australian doctor, academic, Vice-Chancellor and director.
He was educated at Scotch College, Melbourne (1940-1947) and after leaving school he obtained a Doctorate in Medicine at the University of Oxford and a Doctorate in Laws (Hon) at the University of Melbourne.[1]
He was Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Melbourne between 1978 and 1983. He later returned to the University of Melbourne as Vice-Chancellor from 1998 to 1995.[1]

He was appointed a Companion of the Order of Australia in 1988 for services to medicine and to the community, particularly in the field of medical education and health care.[2]
