Dovid Knout (1900–1955), born in Orhei, Moldova is a Russian Jewish poet, who, with his wife Régine-Ariane (1906–1944) and others, established a secret organization called La Main Forte (the strong hand) which became the Armee Juive (AJ or Jewish Army), a World War II resistance movement. The leaders of the Armee Juive also intended to prepare for a war against Britain in order to liberate Israel in order to create a Jewish state. His wife, the daughter of the Russian composer Alexander Scriabin, was ambushed and killed by members of the French Militia wile holding a AJ meeting at her flat in Toulouse.
