David Geary is an award winning playwright from New Zealand. He also writes for television.
Geary studied acting at Toi Whakaari New Zealand Drama School in Wellington. He graduated in 1987. His play Lovelocks Dream Run (1992) was published by Victoria University Press in 1993. The play is studied at schools and New Zealand universities. His short story collection, A Man of the People was published in 2003.[1] In 1991, he co-wrote and co-directed the television documentary The Smell of Money. He has worked as a scriptwriter and storyliner for television including Shortland Street, Mercy Peak, Jackson's Wharf and Hard Out,[2] and has been seen as an actor in series such as Shark in the Park.
He was awarded the Dominion Sunday Times Bruce Mason Playwrights’ Award in 1991 and won the Adam Foundation Playwrights’ Award for The Learner’s Stand in 1994. In 2008, he was Writer in Residence at Victoria University of Wellington.[3]
