In1941 the railway ceased to exist and two new railway companies were created: Croatian State Railways (HDŽ) and Serbian State Railways (SDŽ). The railway was reestablished afterWorld War II . In1952 it was renamed to Yugoslav Railways.Rolling stock
In its beginnings, the JŽ was using mostly Hungarian-made steam locomotives. With the beginning of the electric era, they acquired Italian-made locomotives, which was followed by Swedish and local-made.
Most of the diesel locomotives were made by
