Dato' Dr Low Bin Tick KStJ OBE JP (d.o.b. 5 March 1941) is currently Commander-in-chief of St John Ambulance Malaysia[1] and President of the British Graduates Association of Malaysia[2]. He is a consultant skin specialist and genito-urinary physician practising in Kuala Lumpur.

St Johns Ambulance
Low has served with St Johns Ambulance since 1968, becoming Commander-in-chief in 1994. He initiated the 24-hour emergency ambulance service on the highways during the Hari Raya and Chinese New Year festivals since 1995. At the same time he initiated the Emergency Medical Assistance Service (EMAS) in the major cities in Malaysia.[3] In 2008, Low led the organisation's centenary celebrations at the Dataran Merdeka in Kuala Lumpur.[4] The organisation also established twenty haemodialysis services throughout the country and also an academy of pre-hospital care and is currently running a paramedic diploma course with the Open University of Malaysia.
Achievements and Appointments
In 1993, Low was awarded the Knighthood of the Order of John by the Royal Patron, Queen of England.
In 1998, Low was awarded an OBE by Queen Elizabeth II in recognition of his community services throughout his career.
Soon after, Low was awarded a Dato'ship. In 1998, he was awarded a Pahang Dato'ship (DIMP) and in 1999 a Selangor Dato'ship (DPMS). Both were for his community services throughout his career.
Throughout 2001-5, Low was President of Chin Woo Athletic Association of Selangor and Kuala Lumpur.
In 2010, Low was made a Justice of Peace (JP) by His Royal Highness Sultan of Selangor.[5]
Low is currently a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine Malaysia.[6]
Appearance
Low is known for his trademark work attire, consisting of braces and a bow tie.
