Dariusz Jerczyński (born January 26, 1968 in Katowice) is a Silesian politician and historical writer.

Biography

Dariusz Jerczyński has authored books about the history of Silesia, historical articles in the magazines Czas Górnośląski and Jaskółka Śląska.[1] From 2001 to 2007, Jerczyński was a member of the Silesian Autonomy Movement. In 2002 and 2006, he was a candidate in the Polish local elections for the regional parliament of Silesian Voivodeship.[2] He is a member of the beginning committee of the Union of People of Silesian Nationality since 2004 and is the head secretary of the Silesian Separatistic Movement since 2008.[3]

Activity

On September 15, 2001, Dariusz Jerczyński, as member of a delegation of the Silesian Autonomy Movement, was a guest of the five biggest Moravian national minority organizations in the Czech Republic, on which day the Union of Moravians was founded. Representatives of Moravians and the Silesian Autonomy Movement spoke about a council of Moravia and Silesia.[4]

On October 2, 2006, Dariusz Jerczyński signed a letter from the Union of People of Silesian Nationality to Terry Davies, general secretary of the Council of Europe, about Polish authorities ignoring the Silesian national group.[5] On April 28, 2007, he signed a letter to UNESCO about Polish authorities wanting to change the name of the former concentration camp KL Auschwitz to the ”former german, nazi [...]”. The rational of the renaming was that name of this camp should mirror this place.[6]
