Sheehan gained notoriety in 2000 when he beat the undefeated Elvir Muriqi on ESPN. The fight drew much media attention with Muriqi's famed trainer, Teddy Atlas, speaking into his microphone while instructing Muriqi throughout the bout.[1] Sheehan would lose a rematch to Muriqi a few months later. Sheehan was stopped in his last bout against 6' 7" Olympic bronze medalist (2008), Deontay Wilder,(14-0) in Lafayette, LA on December 2nd of 2010.
Career
Danny Sheehan began his amateur boxing career in 1992, going 1-1 in the Lowell Golden Gloves tournament. Sheehan won the US Army championships in Fort Carson, CO in 1993. In the 1993 Lowell Golden Gloves, Sheehan won 3 matches to earn a spot in the finals. After playing 2 years of football as a Wide Receiver at Dean College, Sheehan was named the team's Most Valuable Player. After Dean, Sheehan attended American International College in Springfield, MA. He served as captain of the AIC wrestling team before leaving school. Once leaving AIC, Sheehan began training for a professional boxing career out of Hartford, CT's San Juan Center. In 1997 he made his professional boxing debut at the Springfield Civic Center. After the 1st Muriqi bout, Sheehan moved from Hartford, CT to Brockton, Massachusetts.He is best known for having a granite chin and his extreme toughness. Sheehan went into most of his fights untrained and on last minute's notice. He has competed against many of boxing's top fighters, including Muriqi twice, Lou Del Valle, Mario Veit, Randy Griffin, Daniel Judah, Joey DeGrandis, James Butler, Prince Badi Ajamu, Rich LaMontagne, and many other notable boxers. Danny Sheehan became a matchmaker in 2002 for Cappiello Promotions, who promoted Danny from 2000-2007, and still works as a matchmaker independently for many promoters.
