Daniel Hale Williams Preparatory School of Medicine, or DHW, opened in September 2005. DHW is a public four-year high school with a 7th and 8th grade academic center on the south side of Chicago (Illinois). The school is located on the DuSable High School campus, and DHW shares the building with two separate high schools, Bronzeville Scholastic Institute and DuSable Leadership Academy.
History
Daniel Hale Williams performed the first successful open heart surgery, and this medical magnet school was named in his honor when it opened in September 2005.[1] Helping minority students get into medical school and become future members of the medical field is central to DHW's mission and vision. The school will celebrate its first graduating class in 2011.
