Dan Whitehurst (born in Los Banos in 1948), was a California politician.
Life
Whitehurst was the son of William Whitehurst and Tarie James Whitehurst and spent his first ten years in Dos Palos. His family moved to Fresno in the late 50's and he graduated from St. Therese School (1961) and San Joaquin Memorial High School (1965). In college, he was the editor of the student newspaper in his junior year and the student body president in his senior year. He worked as an intern in the Washington, DC office of U.S. He was a Fresno city council member from 1975 to 1977 and was the mayor of that city from 1977 to 1985.

- 1986-87 Program Evaluator, Ford Foundation Innovations in Government Program
- 1985-88 Executive Session on Community Policing, Harvard University
- Also served on various advisory committees for: Fresno State, Regional Medical Center, Central California Futures Institute, Boys and Girls Clubs, Fresno County Association for a UC Campus, Fresno Unified School District, Citizens for Community Enrichment (Arts to Zoo), Downtown Task Force (ULI Study)
- 1977-85 Mayor of Fresno[1]
- 1975-77 Fresno City Council
- Youngest Mayor of a major city in the U.S.; Board Member, National League of Cities; Chair, Public Safety Committee, U.S. Conference of Mayors; President, Mayors and Councilmembers Department, League of California Cities and after his post mayor administration he did other business over the year he ran for mayor election in 2000 but lost to Alan Autry. Today he still works .
