Dan Adler

Daniel Herbert "Dan" Adler is a Los Angeles entertainment industry veteran of the new media and Hollywood film and television industries.^[1] He was a Democratic candidate for the United States House of Representatives in the special election to fill California's 36th Congressional District seat.^[2] As of May 18th 2011, Adler received 0.5% of the vote, or just 285 votes. He was eliminated from running in the runoff election since he came in behind Democrat Janice Hahn and Republican Craig Huey.

Early life and career

In 1986 Adler was hired by the Creative Artists Agency (CAA). He later became an executive there.^[1]

In 2003 Adler became Chief Strategic Officer of The Convex Group, a media network and entertainment company.^[3] In 2005 Adler founded the media consultancy firm Media Eagles.^[4] Adler was founder and CEO of Fanista, which produced "Burma: It Can’t Wait".^[5][6]

Public service

Alder serves on the boards of directors of Ryman Arts, the Israel Policy Forum, and the Aleph Society. He is on the boards of advisors of Declare Yourself, the Human Rights Action Center, and the Harvard School of Public Health's Center for Health Communication. He is on the National Leadership Council of Communities In Schools, the President’s Advisory Board of the Zimmer Children’s Museum, the Emeritus Board of Teach For America/LA, and the Council of the REDCAT Theater. He is a member of the American Jewish Committee's National Board of Governors, a member of the board on the California Film Commission, and is a Wexner Heritage Foundation Fellow. Policy initiatives

In 2008 Adler produced and helped to fund 38 short films called “Burma: It Can’t Wait”. The campaign supported the people of Burma and the release of Nobel Peace Laureate Aung San Suu Kyi.^[8]

Adler is an investor of Causes.com,^[9] which bills itself as "the world’s largest platform for activism and philanthropy", and claims to have raised over $30M for more than 25,000 non-profit organizations.^[10]

The Beitar Jerusalem F.C. flop

On July 14, 2011, it was announced all over the Israeli media that after a silent three-day negotiations, Adler, alongside his partner Adam Levin, had signed an agreement to buy the ownership of Beitar Jerusalem F.C. from Arcadi Gaydamak. That was huge news for Beitar, who had been in a three-year-long financial crisis. On July 17, 2011, Adler and Levin visited Beitar's training ground for the first time, and then decided to join the team's players on their warm-up run, allowing the media present to take embarrassing^{[says who?]} pictures of them. From that day on, Adler and Levin had announced "they are here to stay", and ordered chairman Itzik Kornfein to prepare the team for the new season with a high budget.

As the days went on, and after a short and trivial legal procedure (that ended with a decision that the deal could go through), Adler and Levin had yet to transfer either the amount agreed for purchasing the team or the funds for the team's operations. Through all those days, Adler had spoken fluently with Kornfein, promising that the funds would be transferred. Eventually, on July 28, 2011, it was announced that Adler and Levin would not transfer the funds as promised, thus causing a breach of contract.

Adler and Levin's behavior caused Beitar a lot of damage that put the team in a situation worse than before the contract, and forcing the team, among other actions, to release a few key players. The 14-day flop had damaged Adler's reputation severely,^{[citation needed]} with top Israeli businessman^[who?] claiming they will never do business with him. The Israeli media also criticized Adler and Levin, and referred to them as "The Two Jokers", "Laurel and Hardy", etc. Beitar announced they will sue Adler and Levin for their actions.^{[citation needed]}

Family

Adler and his wife Jenna, a CAA Music agent, have two young sons enrolled in the LA Unified School District.

Adler's father was Auschwitz survivor Mayer Michael Adler.^[11]
