Life
Dan 'The Dragon' Spohn was born Daniel Brian Spohn in Abilene, TX on October 12, 1984 to Frank and Joan Spohn. Dan has one brother, Jonathan Spohn, two half brothers, Frank Spohn Jr. and Jason Hammonds, and two half sisters, Kelly and Christie.
In 1996 Joan and her three sons, Jason, Dan, and Jonathan moved to Cambridge, OH where, three years later, Dan attended classes at Cambridge Mixed Martial Arts where he studied under Tim McConahay. This is where he met Rachel (Miller) Spohn, his wife.
Dan attended John Glenn High School in New Concord, OH and gaduated in 2003.
Dan and Rachel moved to Columbus, OH where they currently reside with their 4 children.
Mixed martial arts career
Dan 'The Dragon' Spohn is the current NAAFS Light Heavyweight Champion. Spohn is coming off a 9 second knock out victory over Dane Bonnigson that took place at Bellator 51. Spohn began training in Kung Fu at the age of 12 and at age 14 began training in Aiki Jitsu. Dan has studied traditional Kachido Aikijitsu for the past 13 years under Sensei Tim McConahay. He holds the rank of 3rd degree black belt in the art, and serves as co-instructor at his hometown Cambridge Martial Arts dojo. His current MMA team is the Jorge Gurgel Academy of Mixed Martial Arts, where he trains under Professor Jorge Gurgel, along with team-mates Rich "Ace" Franklin.
