Matchett is a former provincial junior curling champion and a regular on the World Curling Tour.
Matchett is legally blind in his right eye following a surgery to remove the lens in his eye in 1996.
In his junior career, Matchett qualified for four provincial junior championships (1993, 1994, 1995, 1996), winning in 1994 playing second for Joe Frans. The team would then represent Ontario at the 1994 Canadian Junior Curling Championships, where they finished with a 7-4 record in 4th place.[1]. The same year Matchett skipped his Bradford District High School team to the Ontario Schoolboy Championship.[2]
Matchett and his team consisting of third Ryan Werenich, second Jeff Gorda, and lead Shawn Kaufman have won 10 Ontario Curling Tour Events since the fall of 2005.

Although his team has had success on the Ontario Curling Tour, Matchett and team have suffered losses in the final of the OCT Championships, and the regional final of the TSC Stores Tankard in 2007.
Matchett and his rink have played in five Grand Slam events in his career. He did not make the playoffs until the 2011 BDO Canadian Open of Curling, where he lost in the quarterfinal. He has played in two provincial championships - in 2006, finishing fourth and in 2011.
