The Demonstration Multipurpose School (DMS) of Bhubaneswar, Orissa can trace its roots back to 1964, and is one of the oldest schools in Bhubaneswar. It is a co-educational school, administered by the NCERT. It serves about 1200 pupils,

The Demonstration Multipurpose School's national profile has at times given it a flagship role in cultural and Non-scholastic education, piloting such experiments as the introduction of the Central Board of Secondary Education.

It is the only school in Bhubaneswar to offer S.U.P.W studies as a course including Electrical,Home Science,Metal Works, Wood Carpentry, Typewriting, Computer Education, Agriculture ; it is one of the few in India to provide a multipurpose and multidimensional education.

Academics

Uniform

The boys uniform consists of a plain white short-sleeved shirt, official school tie, white trousers, black belt and black polishable school shoes. A khaki half-pant is standard for the lower years than ninth standard. Girls till ninth standard must wear a plain white short-sleeved shirt, official school tie, maroon skirt or trousers and maroon Belt. Girls studying from ninth to twelfth standard- Maroon Kameez, White Salwar and White Dupatta.

The school has produced one international cricketer Shiv Sundar Das who represented India in 23 Test matches and scored 1,326 runs at an average of 38.91, hitting two centuries - both of them against Zimbabwe. In first class cricket, Das now captains Orissa cricket team in domestic competitions.

European partnerships

Demonstration Multipurpose School has cultivated international relationships through annual student exchange programme with Oslo University, Norway.

Publications

The official school magazine is Udayashree. Udayashree enables students to air their views and showcase their literary talents. It features creative input from all sections of the school community, including regular inputs from teachers.

The Demonstration Multipurpose School also published a quarterly News Report. As the school’s publication of record, it contains future session dates, a staff list and a list of awards.
