D-CodeBackground information Genres Drum & Bass, Punk, Alternative, Electronica Occupations Producer, DJ, Musician Labels Shiva Soundsystem, Terrafunk Contents
Early life
D-Code's ardour for Rave music began at the age of 15, as a teenager in Essex, when he invested in a record that would reinforce his love for Rave music forever- "Drum & Bass Selection One".
Fixated by tracks like "The Dark Stranger" by the Boogie Times Tribe and The Prodigy's debut album, D-Code spent much of his youth in record shops and raves- Moondance at Camden Palace, Telepathy, Junglemania, One Nation and World Dance.
Early career
Inspired by rave culture, his fascination got serious when he started playing on pirate radio stations of the likes of Eruption FM, Rude FM and one of the first internet stations- gaialive.co.uk, under the alias 'Blade'.
D-Code set up studio in 2005, and so began a learning curve.
Breakthrough
D-Code met Nerm at a Shiva Soundsystem warehouse party in Hackney - There they shared a common taste for Drum & Bass, Dubstep, The Prodigy, The Sex Pistols and thus struck up a friendship introducing D-Code as a member of Shiva Soundsystem.
In 2006, D-Code released his first single on Shiva Soundsystem Recordings- "Mumbai Cells" [1] along with collaborations with Ram Records' Sparfunk working on material for his new label , Terrafunk Records.
Current
Now with a number of Drum & Bass productions supported by popular artists of the scene (Fabio, London Elecktricity and Andy C amongst many others), and a production style that merges Drums, Bass and Electro Punk, D-Code became the core tune maker in Shiva Soundsystem.[2]
D-Code’s individualistic musical signature caught the attention of the producers at BBC Radio 1 and in conjunction with Nerm in 2008, they hosted their own radio show as part of 'In New DJs We Trust'.
Nerm and D-Code often stepped in for Mary Anne Hobbs,[3] shared the mic with Annie Mac, Pete Tong, Zane Lowe, Fabio & Grooverider and hosted their shows featuring guests such as Matt Helders from Arctic Monkeys, Norman Jay, Marky, Rusko, Andy C, Foreign Beggars, London Elektricity, Sub Focus, The Count & Sinden. The double act uphold a solid rapport with the radio station and frequently present shows across the BBC networks.
2009 saw the release of Shiva Soundsystem's debut LP, "Phasmatis In Machina" which made it to number 3 in the Drum & Bass charts and number 10 in the DMC charts.[4] Having produced the backbone of the album, D-Code provides immense collaborations with the likes of UK Hip Hop act Foreign Beggars, Italy's Elio D'Anna Jr and New York and Mumbai's electronic twosome, Shaair & Func.
DJ Hero
Being one of the lead remixers for the newly released smash music computer game “DJ Hero” has made D-Code as 'one to look out for' within the music industry. His track 'Annie's Horn' is the sole Drum & Bass tune on the game. Remixed with DJ Shadow, ‘Annie’s Horn’ was heard in 2 million homes by Christmas 2009.[5]
D-Code has worked together with Jazzy Jeff, Grandmaster Flash and Tiesto. He's a DJ, producer, Radio 1 presenter, and has held down residencies at night clubs across nationwide and is a recurrent performer at festivals including Glastonbury and Lovebox.
